Hey, what's up? Welcome to my blog.

Weekend Things 2: Bouldering

Hey! It has been a very stressful and hectic week! Hence, I decided to go bouldering. I tried inviting some of my friends but they’re either working or celebrating their girlfriend’s birthday. As usual, so many excuses :). Yeah, I only have two friends that go bouldering with me. Anyone who wants to do bouldering hit me up and I’m down for it unless I’m working.

I went bouldering at The Climbing Unit. I subscribed to their membership last year but only went there a few times. It’s around 35 to 45 minutes walk from my place. I like going on weekdays because there are not so many people around. Wednesday is the worst time to go here because I think that’s when they will re-arrange the blocks and they open a bit late.

I forced myself to go here this week because I just bought a new climbing shoe and can’t wait to try it. I’m not very well this week because I just took my COVID and flu jab, both my arms felt a bit achy and the day after the jab I had this very bad body ache (But I still went to work and it’s a freaking long day shift!). Before this, I usually rented their shoe for 5 pounds but after going a few times, I figured I would save more by buying climbing shoes. I bought the shoes at Decathlon because that’s where I can get all the cheap sports shoes or attire. You have to admit, this shoe looks sick innit?!

It’s the autumn season now, hence you can see all the leaves turning yellow/brown. I didn’t bring my camera because who brought a camera for bouldering? So, all the pictures in this blog were taken by my phone. Not very good quality innit? Initially, I wanted to book an Uber but I would miss the view of leaves falling. Hence, this is just one of the pictures that I took while I was on my way to the bouldering place.

I rented a chalk bag and the chalk itself. My hand will get sweaty after just one climb. The chalk prevents my hand from becoming very slippery. The chalk also makes my clothes very dirty as well. I might just buy a chalk bag for myself the next time I go to Decathlon. The bag that they rent for me has no strap, hence I can’t bring it up when I climb. I might buy a small one that I can carry with me while climbing.

There are a few levels of difficulty in bouldering. Since I’m just a beginner, I only climb the rocks with bee colour, grey and sometimes red. I believe these are for beginners. Usually, I use the bee colour rocks to warm up. Then, I’ll climb most of the grey-coloured rocks. On this occasion, I climbed two different red rock routes. There were two other reds that I didn’t manage to complete as I wasn’t able to figure out how to actually grip the rock. It was literally a hemisphere with no gripping surface!

This is me in my bouldering attire. Yeah, I’m the only one who wore a windbreaker and long pants for an indoor sports HAHAH! This is because it’s freaking cold! I have no idea how the locals here can wear shorts and sleeveless. I’d be shivering too much that I can’t climb.

To end the day, I stop by The Five Guys, my favourite place to order a milkshake. I ordered a vanilla milkshake and as usual, it was so good. I know that having a companion for this kind of sport would be better because there’s someone who can help you out during the climb but not everyone will be available at the time that’s convenient for me. Hence, you just got to go and do things that you wanted to do without waiting for anyone to be available. Plus, the most important thing is to just enjoy and have fun! That’s it for now, bye guys!
