Hey What’s up?

I just wrapped up my weekend night shift in the orthopaedic rotation. The picture above shows me before and after a shower—what a transformation! Honestly, though, I think my pre-shower hair (top pic) had more personality. Every time I wash it, it loses all its volume, and styling it feels like trying to fluff up a pancake. But don’t worry, this post isn’t about my hair (although I could definitely write a tragic novel about it) or my night shift (saving that drama for my Junior Doctor diary). Today, I want to talk about Typo. No, not the kind where you accidentally spell “orthopaedic” as “orthopedic” and spark a transatlantic spelling war. I mean Typo, the gift shop. Since moving to England, I’ve been on a Typo shopping spree, and I’m here to spill the tea on my haul.

The first things I bought were mugs—because what’s life without a little caffeine and ceramic? They were on sale for just £3 each, so naturally, I grabbed two. Now, whenever I have visitors, I can serve them tea or coffee in style. I mean, who wants to drink from a boring old plain mug when you can sip from one of my £3 treasures? Speaking of tea and coffee, I adore them almost as much as I love sleeping (and that’s saying something). For guests, I usually serve Whittard teas—because they’re fancy enough to impress, ridiculously easy to make, and, most importantly, delicious enough to distract from my questionable hosting skills.

After my mug spree, my next purchase was a mini thermos. I only bought it because a friend swore by it, and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer. If I make a hot coffee or tea in the morning, by the afternoon, it’s still warm—or occasionally hot enough to question the laws of physics. As a result, those two mugs I bought? They’ve been demoted to backup status. Sorry, mugs, it’s not you; it’s the thermos. I picked a mint-green one because, let’s face it, if I’m going to carry it everywhere, it might as well look cool while doing all the hard work.

The third thing I bought from Typo was a phone stand. I know, it might seem like a completely unnecessary purchase, but hear me out—it’s aesthetically pleasing. Plus, it’s functional! It can hold my phone in both portrait and landscape positions, and it even has a little hole for the charger. Fancy, right? It’s especially convenient when I’m trying to eat while watching a movie without accidentally dipping my phone in my food. Bonus use: I also prop it up during calls with my mum, so my hands are free to dramatically gesture while updating her on my life. BTW, I am currently watching the Wheel of Time on Amazon! I just finished season 1!

Next up, I bought a laptop bag—a purchase I’d been dreaming about ever since I got my MacBook. It’s essential for keeping my beloved Mac safe and sound when I toss it into my backpack. No scratches, no dirt, no heart attacks when I hear something clunk in my bag. I went with a blue one because, honestly, black is so overrated. Plus, doesn’t it look like denim? It’s totally giving vintage vibes, like my laptop is ready to star in a 90s throwback movie.

Last but not least, I treated myself to a laptop holder. This little gadget has two main purposes. First, it saves space on my desk by letting me store my laptop vertically, as shown in the picture. Second, it raises my laptop slightly, which feels way more professional—even if I’m just scrolling through memes. Bonus purpose? It makes my desk setup look aesthetic, perfect for those “pretending to study” videos I might post online. Oh, and speaking of studying, I have an exam this weekend—so send some good vibes my way! Fingers crossed for good marks and a training job next year!

Lastly, my most recent purchase—a giant mug. Yes, I know, another mug, but hear me out: it was on sale, and I’ve always wanted an oversized mug. It’s perfect for making coffee in one go, so I can stay hydrated without the hassle of brewing multiple cups. I mean, who wants to make coffee multiple times when you can just make one huge cup? This bad boy was also just £3, so I had to grab it. Who says you can’t be practical and a coffee connoisseur at the same time?

What should I buy next? Leave your suggestions in the comments below! Personally, I’m just waiting for those giant ramen bowls with chopsticks to go on sale before I splurge on them. Please, for the love of your wallets, don’t let my post send you running to Typo after this. Alright, I hope you enjoyed reading, and I’ll catch you in my next post!
