Hey, what’s up?
I recently read Twenty Something by Ron Lim, a beautiful mix of poetry and prose that feels incredibly personal and timely for me. I’ve been following Ron on Instagram for a while, and his relatable quotes kept popping up on my feed, making me want to grab his book before I turn thirty. (Because let’s be honest — how relatable would it be once I’m knee-deep in my thirties? Hahaha!)
Right now, I’m in my late twenties — back pain, life crisis, and all — so this book honestly couldn’t have come at a better time. Twenty Something is divided into five chapters: A New Beginning, Into the Unknown, Stuck, Into the Unknown (Again), and A Place in This World. Each chapter feels like its own little journey, perfectly capturing the different phases of navigating adulthood.
I graduated about a year and a half ago, and with my current job ending this August, the uncertainty about my future has been weighing heavily on me. That’s actually one of the big reasons I picked up this book — I needed something that would understand the feeling of being stuck, unsure, and a little lost.
Ron’s writing is simple yet comforting. His words have a way of making you feel seen without being overwhelming. He captures the excitement of starting fresh, the fear of not knowing what’s next, the frustration of being stuck, and the hope that eventually, we’ll find our place in this world.
Overall, I’d give Twenty Something an 8 out of 10. It was relatable and comforting, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s feeling even slightly lost right now — especially if you’ve just finished studying or are figuring out your place in the working world.
As usual, I’ll be sharing some quotes/prose from the book! But this time, I’m just going to randomly flick through the pages and share whatever pops up with you guys.
